  1. The IRS creates many rules and interpretations that can impact a growing family.  With passage of the new health care reform law came many new features that appear family friendly on the surface.  Only time will tell how they play out in the end.

    Some changes are less visible and less publicized, but their impact will be felt right away by growing families.

  2. I recently underwent a surgery that required a five night hospital stay.  The final bill from the hospital sheds light on an often misunderstood and potentially crippling aspect of medical billing: allowed charges, or usual customary and reasonable fees.  If you are considering delivering your baby at an out of network hospital, make sure you understand your possible financial obligations.

    My surgery was performed at an in network hospital, and my insurance paid 100% of the “allowed charges”, after I made a daily co payment.
