Make sure you include short term disability insurance in the mix.

Montana Short Term Disability: Pregnancy, Maternity Leave

Montana short term disability for pregnancy helps to create maternity leave income.
  • 6 week payment - vaginal delivery
  • 8 week payment - c-section birth
Cash payments begin immediately after satisfying your elimination period - usually one to two weeks for most women purchasing a policy when planning a family. The premium you pay may be a small fraction of what the policy returns for normal childbirth.

Your policy often becomes self funding. The benefit paid for normal maternity scenarios - something couples often plan in advance - often far surpass what is paid in premium. You get a policy that covers you for bigger exposures at no extra costs.

The biggest concern for many women is what happens during a pregnancy disability leave due to bed rest. Good news! The same policy that self funds covers this event as well.

If you are already pregnant and need coverage your options are limited. You may qualify for government assistance, and can lower costs in a variety of ways.

Montana Short Term Disability Insurance

Montana is a state with vast open spaces, and spectacular mountain scenery. As the 3rd least densely populated state in the country many people live and work in remote areas. When getting sick or hurt, in addition to lost income there may be considerable travel expenses attached to following up on doctor located in some of the more metropolitan areas in Billings, Mizzoula, Great Falls, etc.

A combination of lost income coupled with added expenses can be devastating. Why put your Big Sky lifestyle at risk? If you were to become disabled tomorrow and couldn't work for two or three months, would you have enough savings to cover living expenses during that time? Short term disability insurance in Montana can cover up to 66% of your gross income for your full time occupation. Cash payment can last up to 24 months if you remain unable to work for that long.

Montana State Disability Insurance

Montana does not have state mandated short term disability insurance. There are only five states with such coverage.

Montana state disability insurance consists solely of Social Security Disability benefits.  The definition of disability under Social Security is different than other programs. Social Security pays only for total disability. No benefits are payable for partial disability or for short-term disability.

If you are disabled and need help paying bills you should contact the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. The Montana Disability Determination Services (DDS) works with the Social Security Administration (SSA) in administering two disability programs. (SSDI) is a monthly benefit paid to eligible individuals who cannot work due to serious physical or mental disability. (SSI) is a needs based program that provides coverage for adults and children whose income and resources are below a specified level.
