Pregnyl Cost Discounts: Fertility Drugs More Affordable

Pregnyl used for weight loss, and infertilityPregnyl HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is an injectable hormone therapy is often used for infertility, weight loss, adolescent males to promote puberty, and in body building.

Your total costs may vary widely depending upon how you intend to use Pregnyl HCG: the dosage required, number of cycles used, whether insurance will pick up a portion of the tab, tax deductibility of your application, and the hidden price of side effects.

It pays to research and understand the following:
  • Affordable pregnancy - supplemental maternity insurance refunds for infertility uses when you conceive and deliver a baby
  • Avoid charges - have your health insurance pay the bill when possible
  • Discount prices - determine if your expenses are tax deductible

Your expenses can add up quickly when paying out of pocket. Any assist from 3rd party coverage can make a big difference. Increase your odds of finding relief and make conceiving far more affordable.

Discount Pregnyl via Health Insurance Coverage

Having a third party cover your Pregnyl expenses is the best discount. Rather than paying the entire amount out of pocket, you may only be responsible for a copay if your health insurance plan covers your prescription. Pregnyl is sometimes covered by health plans, but typically only certain uses are covered, and for infertility applications only in certain states.

Pregnyl is sometimes prescribed to men to stimulate the production of testosterone. It is administered to manage delayed puberty, undescended testicles, and low sperm production. The first two conditions are more likely to be covered by insurance, as the therapy is likely to result in a cure, and does not add to other spending. When administered for low sperm count, most insurance plans will deny coverage as downstream consequences are much more expensive; the man’s wife gets pregnant.

Pregnyl is also used often in bodybuilding as part of a post cycle therapy (PCT). These costs are typically not covered by insurance.

Pregnyl HCG injections are also given as part of weight loss therapy. The injection increases metabolism, which prompts the body to burn fat more quickly. Contact your insurance carrier to see if you are covered for weight loss. Many carriers will see the positive impact on future claims for patients who better manage their weight.

Pregnyl HCG injections are most commonly prescribed to treat infertility. It is used to stimulate ovulation after follicle development has been increased. It is the next step therapy after using Follistim as part of IVF, after Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), and other artificial reproductive therapies. Health insurance rarely covers any infertility drug when it is administered during an ART procedure. The resulting pregnancies are very expensive, so insurers cover infertility treatments only when required by law. Fifteen states mandate infertility coverage to one degree or another. Know the laws in the states where both employers are headquartered.

Verify coverage with your health plan administrator. The J Code is J0725.

Deductible Pregnyl Expenses

Pregnyl HCG and other infertility costs may be tax deductible. The IRS may provide you with significant discounts. Pay attention to which applications are deductible, and how to maximize your discounted prices.

If you are using Pregnyl for bodybuilding, your out of pocket costs are probably not deductible as a medical expense. Un-reimbursed expenses when used for weight loss, infertility, and puberty therapy may be deducted. Most often charges are highest when injections are taken in conjunction with Artificial Reproductive Techniques (ART) - when treating infertility. You often have the costs for the injections, along with other fertility drugs, and other procedures as well.

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) makes life more affordable when expenses are expected to be lower - under $10,000 spent annually. The reason is that you get first dollar tax savings on income and FICA taxes. You can discount your prices by ⅓ or more. Taking deductions on Schedule A works best if your employer does not offer an FSA or when expenses are higher. Deduction savings don’t begin until your expenses eclipse 7.5% of Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).

Pregnancy Costs Offset by Supplemental Insurance

You may be taking Pregnyl in an attempt to get pregnant, deliver your baby, and take a maternity leave to bond with your infant. When you buy supplemental insurance before taking any fertility drugs and beginning your next artificial reproductive procedure, your normal labor and delivery may be a covered benefit, and this cash payment made directly to you may greatly exceed the premium you pay while undergoing any infertility drug therapy.

Consider any false pregnancy test a wakeup call. If you want supplemental insurance to offset your infertility costs, coverage must begin before getting pregnant.

Pregnyl Prices Versus Total Cost

There is a big difference between price and costs for Pregnyl. Price determines what you pay per dose. Costs are much broader and include: total number of doses taken, charges for other procedures, hidden price of side effects, and the biggest expense of all - you get pregnant with multiples!

By searching online you can find that Pregnyl prices range from $100 to $150 per vial. Each vial contains 10,000 IU. Combine the unit prices with the dosage needed to determine your expenditure in isolation. Look further for a more accurate picture.

Pregnyl dosage for women undergoing infertility treatments has two phases. One injection of 5,000 to 10,000 IU is given for ovulation induction. Two or three injections of 1,000 to 3,000 IU are given for luteal phase support. You may expect to use 20,000 IU or two vials bringing your total charges to perhaps $300 - per cycle. “Per cycle” of course is the magic phrase as couples often don’t know how many cycles will be needed before getting that coveted positive pregnancy test. Learning how to keep expenses low is critical for any couple, especially those using fertility drugs with IVF, or IUI as these other expenses accumulate rapidly.

Dosages for men taking Pregnyl are smaller, but more injections are needed over time. For men with low sperm count a dosage of 1,000 to 2,000 IU two times a week for at least three months is recommended. This totals almost 50,000 IU or five vials totaling $750. For teenage boys with delayed puberty, a dosage 1,500 IU three times a week for six months is recommended. This totals almost 200,000 IU over the course of treatment or a total expenditure of $3,000 - but the expenses may be covered by insurance.

Don’t forget why you are taking Pregnyl, and what may happen down the road. It is associated with side effects such as ovarian hyper stimulation, thrombosis, and higher rates of pregnancy loss. The biggest side effect is multiple pregnancies which are often high-risk and deliver preterm.
